In Mystic Class Nona Grey begins to learn the secrets of the universe. But so often even the deepest truths just make our choices harder. Before she leaves the Convent of Sweet Mercy Nona must choose her path and take the red of a Martial Sister, the grey of a Sister of Discretion, the blue of a Mystic Sister or the simple black of a Bride of the Ancestor and a life of prayer and service.
All that stands between her and these choices are the pride of a thwarted assassin, the ambition of a would-be empress wielding the Inquisition like a blade, and the vengeance of the empire’s richest lord.
As the world narrows around her, and her enemies attack her through the system she has sworn to, Nona must find her own path despite the competing pull of friendship, revenge, ambition, and loyalty.
And in all this only one thing is certain.

There will be blood.

My thoughts:
I was ...unimpressed :/ Book 1 was so good and then I read this and was all eh. I even started skimming at the end. It just lost some of it's shine. Instead I felt like we got mean girls in a fantasy world. Even Nona was so meh.
I am still really fascinated by the world! I want to know from where they came, why, and what about the culture before them!
But do I wish to read more about Nona? Eh. Sigh, that says it all :/
Disappointing
I liked it but it's true that it was different
ReplyDeleteI missed the feel of book 1
DeleteI like the cover for this one.
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteOuch, no skim read for sure and what a shame it didn't measure up to the first one.
ReplyDeleteI was so disappointed
DeleteI don't agree I have loved the series so far no skimming for me. Can't wait for book three!
ReplyDeleteI fear I am done, though! if it is a trilogy I might read it, if not then done
Deleteit is a trilogy the end should come next April. fingers crossed for you if you give it a try!
DeleteBooo super bummer.
ReplyDelete:/
DeleteThat's too bad. I have the audio for the first book but haven't had the chance to listen to it yet.
ReplyDeleteI do think that audio for this one would have worked better (most books do), so give 1 a go, it was great
DeleteNona kicks so much ass. But yeah, this one sort of took the attention away from her kickassery though. But then again, we got more of Abbess Glass! Damn, I just love her!

Abbess Glass kickas ass!
DeleteThe world still fascinates me. I wanted to know more about it, and less Nona ;)
Ah, bummer! I had a good time with this one, but yes, the mean girls bit put me off somewhat. I agree, there are so many questions about the world of the past and what will happen in the future. I can't wait to see what comes next.
ReplyDeleteThose are the things I do want to know, but I felt let down
DeleteIf you did not like the first, then yes no for you
ReplyDeleteAlways disappointing when the second doesn't live up to the first.
ReplyDeleteI know :/
DeleteSometimes a book is like that :/
ReplyDeleteBummer...are you still interested enough to continue?
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
Honestly..no. I guess if the library picks it up I can try but I am not rushing
DeleteUgh. I hate when you love the set up and world building but don't love the stories.
ReplyDeleteI know, I am so sad
DeleteI've been thinking of getting that first book too, after seeing some raves! Sorry this one was meh.
ReplyDeleteEveryone else seems to love this one too, I am always the odd one out
