Review: The Lady Most Likely - a novel in three parts

Authors: Julia Quinn, Connie Brookway, Eloisa James
Genre: Historical romance
Pages: 372
Published: 2010
Publisher: Avon
Source: My shelf

Hugh Dunne, the Earl of Briarly, needs a wife—so his sister hands him a list of the very best young ladies on the market. And then, because he refuses to tear himself away from the stables where he trains Arabian racehorses, she invites all those ladies to a house party, along with some other bachelors, of course. So who will Hugh choose? The Botticelli-esque, enchanting Gwendolyn? The outspoken, delightful Katherine? If he doesn't work fast, he'll lose those ladies to his closest friends, and then where will he look for a wife? Perhaps, just perhaps, toward a lady who's not on a market at all, and would require a great deal of persuading.

My thoughts:
This is not an anthology and that is perhaps why it worked so well for me. But it is still a book written by three authors. Each one takes on a couple and let them fall in love, but it is a flowing novel since it all happens during a house party and each author writes about everyone really.

To start this: I liked Julia Quinn's story the best. It was a sudden romance and she always writes such sweet stories I am not gonna say who it is about but it was lovely.

The second story by Brockway was about good too, and I liked how much the man knew what he wanted.

The third story was the one I wanted to like the most, but turned to be the one I liked the least. Though it was still good. It was the story I knew would come from page one, still, maybe it was because there was no courtship at all.

Between each stories we Hugh's sister who is trying to fix him up and the whole book is just cute and funny. It worked truly well to write a story like this and it flows well. It never stops.

But I must mention a thing, I have noticed it before and then it came here too. A man is kissing his virginal interest for the first time, and then he at once goes for the breasts and nipple kissing...really? If I guy did that the first time I kissed him I would have been rather shocked. Not to mention it most often takes place where someone could find them too. I mean mouth and then suddenly boob. Especially if I had been an unkissed virginal Miss from a century where I barely had seen myself naked before.

Conclusion:
Sweet and lovely are the words. I enjoyed this one

Lovely.

  1. I just finished this one on audio, but it really didn't do much for me. I do love the cover though. I think my favorite one was the middle one with Neill and Kate, but I wasn't crazy about the accent the narrator gave him. I think I missed something, are Neill and Kate supposed to be Irish?

  2. Sounds like those kissing scenes are a bit much, but I'm glad you found the book sweet and enjoyable overall.

  3. I think the only time you can forgive a guy for trying to cop a feel on the first kiss is if he is 14 LOL

Sometimes the move directly from kissing to full-on make-out session (especially for the inexperienced) is a little to quick.

I do like all 3 authors though---will have to check it out :)

  4. Great review! I like it when authors work together on a book!

And yeah, that's kind of unbelievable. :)

Hahaha that would be rather disconcerting wouldn't it? I adore Julia Quinn, so I'm really excited to read her part of the story. Thanks so much for the review!

  6. I haven't seen this book around before, and I am intrigued by three authors writing one book. I think I'll have to add it to the wishlist. :)

  7. I like the concept. I'll keep an eye out for it. Great review!

  8. I've got it on my list to read, but I doubt it will be one I run out to buy right away--so many books already, you know? However, it sounds like one I'll pick up if for no other reason than to see how the three author's work out the writing in different parts. :D

I mean mouth and then suddenly boob."

Oh, I laughed when I read this. Thanks for cheering up my Friday with your review! :D Lol. I know a fair amount of books that have done this, and while, at the time, I might not think about it while reading the book (swept away by the passion, don't you know! *wink*) when I think about it later, it doesn't quiet fit, espeically in historicals where the heroine is a virginal miss who, like you mentioned, probably has barely ever seen herself naked little loan done any of the things our wicked hero wants to do. But then they don't call if "ravishing" for nothing, right? :D

    Enjoy!

  9. LMAO!!! Mouth to boobs! Fictional men can be so single minded. LOL

I have to agree with Felicia. Only adolescent boys should be excused from such an action.

  10. I guess those virgins like to move fast :) I'm not a big fan of anthologies, but one story by three authors, I can try. Thanks B!

  11. This sounds ok but I had to laugh at the kissing scenes. I'm thinking the same thing, the girl would likely swoon from that forward of an action. Lol.

  12. "I mean mouth and then suddenly boob." It does happen a lot in books, doesn't it?

  13. I always wondered about that too Blodeuedd. If I was one of those country misses, I would smack - no - punch him in the kisser. It baffles me.

ANYWAYS, what an original idea! Three authors working on the same story, but with three couples? AMAZING! Sounds like a pretty good read.

  14. I like that this is written by three authors, how interesting. The cover is lovely and I think I'd enjoy this one. Nice review Blod. 'I mean mouth and then suddenly boob'<-lol...yes, that seems like rushing it.

  15. Oh, interesting. I like the idea of three authors writing a novel together, but maybe not so much the kissing ;-)

Oh, too bad :( But it could have been the narration.

And his mum was Irish. But he grew up in England, he was noble. I doubt he would have had the accent. That was just stupid.

    Anna
    It's historical romance ;)

    Felicia
I just do not get it, and they are not really touching most of the time either. First kiss, and then he just pulls down the dress. Yup, so not cool.

    Nina
It was truly fun and different

    Jenny
I really like Julia Quinn too :D So of course I liked her story the most. It is just the way she writes

Yes do :) I was so unsure about how it would work but it felt like any other book

    Happy friday Chris!

    Linda
    It was a cute one!

Oh yes too many books, too little time.

Most of the time I just let it slide, cos yes historicals ;) And yes passion, still, if I just met a guy, we were in a fairly public place, he kissed me for the first time and then nibbled on..something else. I would think I would pull away, lol.

I just wish he would spend a bit more time kissing before heading south

    Missie
Lol, they sure can be. Mouth, whatever, ooooh booobs! Just one thing on their mind...well two.

    Jenny
I am not a fan either but here, it was a story so it worked

I think a good swooning would be in order then. Since so much was shocking then and that, yikes, she would hit the floor.

    Carol
It does seem to be a favorite ;)

    Carole R
I know :D And it works so well. I have no idea how they did it since they each wrote a story but everyone is in every story. So well done.

A good kick in the nuts would be in order.

    Naida
I do always wonder about that. I can get the whole seducing part but these gentlemen are always rushing for the boobs.

    Aarti
It worked well, I am glad to have read it and so much better than an anthology

  19. *giggles*

I love the way you talked about the kissing. She should have at least given him a good smack... uh... I mean slap! LOL I don't know if the book will be as good as this review!

  20. I keep reading such good things about Julia Quinn novels; maybe I'll get my feet wet with this story before committing to a longer work.

  21. I loved Julia Quinn's story and thought the others were ok. It could just be because she is one of my favorite authors. :) I get what you mean about the whole kissing/boob thing.

  22. I have this book on my TBR I believe, I like the premise of it. One day, it will be read.

And I agree with you, sometimes those make out scenes go to fast!

Haha, I am glad, I do like when i got readers to smile from my reviews, and well, it is true, mouth, boob --> B wondering if they are boob obsessed. Lol

    Stephanie
She is so wonderful, I do love love her :D One of my fav HR authors

    Debbie
The last one was ok, the 2nd worked, but yes of course in the shine of Quinn they were just ok for me too ;)

    Aurian
I would at least want to be kissing for a bit longer before he tries to pull my boobs out, lol

  24. What an interesting way to write a book, I like it! Sounds like a fun read.

  25. I've never read a book written by three authors about three different romantic threads within a story... that is new to me :)

  26. Amused
It sure was different but it sure works well too

    Cherry
Just think of it like a normal book with 3 strong couples in it

  27. I like Julia Quinn so I might give this book a chance. And while I enjoy historical romance I do find it odd how uninhibited the virginal protagonists are when it comes to sex.

  28. Simcha
They just go for it it seems, well...not even I would do some of the things they do at once, lol. Even in the heat of passion
