Historical romance

To review

I liked this one. There is nothing like secret penpals!

Beatrix has this stupid friend, Prudence. At first she was ok, but then I realised she only wants attention, a title, or money. She is writing to a handsome soldier, and then Beatrix takes over cos Prue is over it. And Beatrix falls in love through his letters, they show the real him, and not the rake he was before. And Christopher falls in love with Beatrix, thinking it is the real her, and not the vain woman who said yes to writing to him.

And we all know this will end in disaster. He comes back for his Prue, and she is more than happy t welcome a warhero. Oh is that your quirky friend Beatrix? Who cares for her. Real life Beatrix and Christoper is like oil and water when they meet again. I just wanted to hit Christopher over the head and scream, there is your true love you stupid oaf!

But there is more, he is suffering from severe ptsd. And all Beatrix wants is to help.

Oh these two, they so belong to each other. It was heartbreaking.

One thing though, ok we all know they marry, duh, but the book continued after that, and it had already felt like it ended so that was a bit strange...

My favorite in the series

I like Roselyn Landor, she has a great narrating voice for historical romance. It feels very right, and she does well with male and female voices. They are distinct and rings true.

As a lover of animals and nature, Beatrix Hathaway has always been more comfortable outdoors than in the ballroom. Even though she participated in the London season in the past, the classic beauty and free-spirited Beatrix has never been swept away or seriously courted... and she has resigned herself to the fate of never finding love. Has the time come for the most unconventional of the Hathaway sisters to settle for an ordinary man—just to avoid spinsterhood?

Captain Christopher Phelan is a handsome, daring soldier who plans to marry Beatrix's friend, the vivacious flirt Prudence Mercer, when he returns from fighting abroad. But, as he explains in his letters to Pru, life on the battlefield has darkened his soul—and it's becoming clear that Christopher won't come back as the same man. When Beatrix learns of Pru's disappointment, she decides to help by concocting Pru's letters to Christopher for her. Soon the correspondence between Beatrix and Christopher develops into something fulfilling and deep... and when Christopher comes home, he's determined to claim the woman he loves. What began as Beatrix's innocent deception has resulted in the agony of unfulfilled love—and a passion that can't be denied.

  9. I do love the correspondence romances and they can get tricky when someone is pretending to be someone else. Sounds like a lot of good elements in it around the romance.
