Ancillary mercy - Ann Leckie

For a moment, things seemed to be under control for Breq, the soldier who used to be a warship. Then a search of Athoek Station's slums turns up someone who shouldn't exist, and a messenger from the mysterious Presger empire arrives, as does Breq's enemy, the divided and quite possibly insane Anaander Mianaai - ruler of an empire at war with itself.

Breq refuses to flee with her ship and crew, because that would leave the people of Athoek in terrible danger. The odds aren't good, but that's never stopped her before.

My thoughts:

One really should not read sci-fi a year apart..well at least not me. I do have problems with sci.fi in a way, not bad problems, just that I forget things, and the tech stuff and...yes I was all wait wait? How was she a AI again? I had forgotten the most important things, not that the main POV is AI, but how...

So if you do read these, do not wait a year between books! ;)

Forgetting all that, I really do like Ann Leckie. I should check if she has anything new out. I like military sci-fi for some reason, I gravitate to it, no idea why, I mean seriously, I am all tech? And still I got for the AI and ships. I also like how she uses the pronoun she...for all of them. The Raadch do not care about gender and use the word she for everyone.

I am rambling, I can not concentrate today. Anyway the leader of this corner of the universe is fighting with herself ..she is many...and Breq, who was a ship and is now just one person takes a side. Breq is a good, well person, being AI and all.  But the one that steals the show in this one is a translate from an alien race, oh she was a hoot. I like that these are not heavy sci-fi, they do manage to be light, considering.

Conclusion:
Oh whatever, i can NOT write a review today. I suck.

What if you once had thousands of bodies and near god-like technology at your disposal? 

And what if all of it were ripped away? 

The Lord of the Radch has given Breq command of the ship Mercy of Kalr and sent her to the only place she would have agreed to go -- to Athoek Station, where Lieutenant Awn's sister works in Horticulture.

Athoek was annexed some six hundred years ago, and by now everyone is fully civilized -- or should be. But everything is not as tranquil as it appears. Old divisions are still troublesome, Athoek Station's AI is unhappy with the situation, and it looks like the alien Presger might have taken an interest in what's going on. With no guarantees that interest is benevolent.

My thoughts:

This series is so hard to put down in words. But do I understand it all..eh, actually no. I really can not get my head around ancillaries. Ok so they are dead/or not dead people who had stuff put in their brains and they they all are 1 and belong to the ship. But if you take the stuff out they are dead...well they were already dead most of then. And they should not have feelings. ..right?

Ok so that was my thoughts about them, but hey it does not matter. Maybe it's just me.

I also find it interesting how everything is SHE, no men or women. But...yes I wonder, who is male and female? Fine it should not matter, but hey I still wonder.

In this book Breq is given the command of a ship. The empire is falling apart as their leader is fighting herself (well yes I told you it is weird.) Breq is sent to a tea planet (oh they LOVE their tea) and investigates.

Breq is such a great main character, she is just so so, oh just read it and see.

Conclusion:

This is good sci.fi, and yes I want more.

Ancillary justice - Ann Leckie

On a remote, icy planet, the soldier known as Breq is drawing closer to completing her quest. Once, she was the Justice of Toren - a colossal starship with an artificial intelligence linking thousands of soldiers in the service of the Radch, the empire that conquered the galaxy. Now, an act of treachery has ripped it all away, leaving her with one fragile human body, unanswered questions, and a burning desire for vengeance. 

My thoughts:

I am gonna be totally honest here. I was lost for like the first 100 pages. My brain was one big ? I had no idea what I was reading. And when I finished I was still a bit ?!?!?.But the book was still so good, so even though I was lost in a cloud of confusion I could still not put it down. Weird...so weird.

I am just gonna simplify the shit out of things so my brain can keep track even years after so I know wtf I am talking about.

Ok, we have a spaceship. We have lots of bodies, I forgot, all dead or not? Anyway The AI in the ship is in all of them. So like zombie army walking around all linked to the ship. All doing their own thing, all being everywhere. Oh, like the Borg? Let's say that brain. 

And that is why the book is so bloody confusing. First we have the wtf are these things? Then there is the whole aspect of one zombie drone talking to someone, while another one is talking far away to someone else. Not to mention that the ship thinks of everyone as She. So I feel like the entire universe is female. Good for us, but yes I see someone as female, later see they are male, but still talked about as female.

But then I got the hang of things..sort of. We see "Breq" 20 years before and now when she has saved someone frozen for 1000 years. And Breq is what is left of the ship.

And then there is some kind of "evil" ruler who also has lots of bodies, whaaat? Nooo, more confusion..you will see.

Conclusion:

But damn the book was good, if I hadn't been so confused it would have been a 4. But even in my confusion I never wanted to put it down.
