WOhoo, I picked a good one!!! All bow before me!

*bows* I am so happy this was good!

Told you ;) Well, ok I hoped it would be good cos the book was fantastic! Ack so good! You have to read it. I am glad they made a good movie then too :)

I do not think I read the book but the movie was so good.

It does feel weird when I can compare, and in that aspect the book was better cos it was different and told through letters. Which obvi would not work here ;) They did manage to do it well though by sending her to Guernsey. But one point that I hoped for in the book did not come through as much here. Ok ok, so I knew what had happened, but I also felt that IT was obvious hint hint.

I loved that they sent her there. She was able to connect with everyone face-to-face. I did feel bad for Mark tho…

Yes, poor Mark, he loved her, but….come on, he did not stand a chance.

Yessss but poor guy. Took it like a champ too. Kuddos, but yeah...I get it, but I still was team Mark.

In the book I was clearly Team Else, but here, damn that ring! And the roses! And that last kiss. For what? I fear I really liked Team Mark too.

Else was awesome in his own ways and it would be fun to read books with him and him be interested in them, BUT Mark was so sweet. Sighs. Oh well.

Mark will find someone who appreciates him more, like he could fall in love with her publisher. Yes Mark found out he did not like women after all.

Really???? See. One thing about books...there is SO much more stories and info in it. LOL.

Lol, well I liked her publisher, he was cute. He needs a HEA too. Ok we have only talked about Mark so far, must think of something else.

LOL love how Mark took over there. But yes. I must say I liked how there was that one character that Elizabeth was in love with (will not say - so there is no spoiler) and it makes you think. It added complexity to the story. Ugh. So hard not to spoil it to make my ramblings make sense. LOL

I had managed to forget that. It was after all, long ago. But yes, everything is not black and white. There is a lot of grey. Though I would have liked more info, now it was more bam...ok, when did that happen?

Yesss I would’ve liked to see more of them. So sad...super sad.

I remember hoping, even though I knew. So sad. Though I did not cry, you said you cried somewhere?

I did. I so did cry when the big reveal was told at the table. Oooo emotions.

Aw, yes, maybe cos I already knew it spoiled it a bit for me. Still sad!

Probably, but everyone’s reactions got me. Even Mark was upset (hehehe Mark slips in again). It broke my little heart!! Maybe it was because I had hope and all my hope was dashed and exploded and UGH! I am tearing up just thinking of it again!

Omg, you are so in love with Mark!! But he was one fine man. Here’s to you Mark!

Here here!! xD Else was great too. I liked the old guy a lot too (can’t remember his name) and the crazy lady who made the gin (god - I can’t remember her name). I want her to have an HEA too. Poor thing.

I think she got a HEA, she did have a flirt going with someone if you remember. But yes the old guy and his grandson were lovely. I can not say I was that keen on the old lady. And of course the pig farmer was very nice too.

I do remember, but then she said she didn’t like anyone in town. Awww she deserves one. That old lady annoyed me. Yes, she lost her daughter...but she was so bitter. She did have some funny lines. LOL

I think she fancied him, I like happiness :)

But yes the old lady was SO bitter. Everyone lost someone. They all had to try to move on. But then there has to be someone who was bitter. At least she was still a good person and not like that piece of S#it “hotel owner” that she meets.

Ah! Yes. I forgot about that hotel lady. WHAT A WITCH! Ugh! How dare she. Calls herself a woman of god. >_> I’m glad she got a good tongue-lashing. Also, that one dude who liked to turn people in for money. Piece of trash. I’m surprised they didn’t run his traitor butt out once the Nazis left.

Ugh, yes, throw him off the island!

Horrible, horrible man. But that shows how kind-hearted those islanders are overall. They allowed him to stay. I do want to live there (of course after the Nazis leave XD). It would be fun I think. It was so beautiful!

It did look really wonderful! And you know, I did not even know that the Germans took over Channel island during the war before I read that book.

I honestly didn’t know either. When the move first started, I thought we were in France and then I realized that it wasn’t. Was that a real place? Goodness. Even though I spent so much time studying WWII in High School and College...I still learn something new all the time. Such a big war. I do not think we’ll ever know everything about it.

Yes G and Jersey, but then how could we know. Yes we both learned about WW2, but obvi you learned more about the US efforts while I learned more how we fought Russia.

The war certainly took over the whole war. Even countries NOT involved still was involved in some shape or form. Craziness!

They should make more movies or whatever about it, it feels like people just forgot that they were occupied too. We are missing interesting things here, and surely sad ones too.

Agreed. And it does make sense why England was SO invested and wouldn’t quit. I honestly cannot imagine having to go through an occupation like that. This movie/book really showed a part of occupation people forget about. The people who take over can get rid of all the books and literature they deem not appropriate. How many books burned!! As a book lover I cannot imagine having to get rid of certain books or not having access to the library anymore. It is so trivial compared to everything going on, but it is an important part of society and culture. The Nazis took so much.

Not the books! Books, art, everything the stole and that was lost. Sometimes I forget how evil humankind can be. And I have not even started to think about genocide yet. We really are a despicable race aren’t we :(

We really can be. So much hatred, so many bad things happen because of us. The movie really showed that BUT it also showed the love we can create. The kindness especially from Elizabeth. I adored her. She even jumped out in front of the soldiers and yelled at them. She was so brave! She really was a symbol of the goodness in humanity. She risked her life over and over again to do kindness. She stood for love.

I thought they would kill her right there,  I was surprised they didn’t. And yes I loved how brave she was, when no one else seemed to be.

I thought about that too. Maybe it was because she yelled at them in English and those foot soldiers didn’t understand? She got lucky indeed. The old lady played it off well. Or maybe they gave a hair of lieway and didn’t want to cause a riot during their ceremony march? Who knows.

Yes true, better not kill anyone during their victory march. Plenty of time for that later.

You can bet for sure she was on their radar after that…

But err….erm….all I have to say this was a good movie. I loved the story and the characters (even the bitter ones). It was worth the watch even if you haven’t read the book. Laughs, love, sadness, books, and pie.

Yes watch it, read it, or do both. Worth every way possible :) I had thought I had to wait a long time, I thought it was to be a cinema movie, but to all netflix fans out there. Go get it

My thoughts:

Yes I watched another CHurchill movie, yes I believe none of you have watched this one. And that is why I am here, watching the movies you all have not, so that you do not have to... ;)

But, it was not that bad. Ok so it was not good, but it was not bad. It was better than the movie Carole and I watched, but Oldman was a greater actor, nothing beats him.

This takes places before D Day and he feels they are making a huge mistake that will get people killed. I saw another side to him here. The war had taken its' toll, and he did not want more death.

Great actors, though why they have his wife running around when she does not really bring anything to the story I do not know. Give her a bigger part!

It was rather interesting.

Well! Hello there!

Hello! What a strange time to meet at, lol, I am used to our usual time ;) But yes. MOVIE time!!! It made me cry, *sniff* But yes let’s start-

Yess earlier than normal! But yes, I teared up for sure. I didn’t cry but I was yelling at the screen! I was so worried at the end there! I had no idea what was going to happen!

I was so worried! I was all NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. And then my heart broke. *coughs* But let us not talk about that anymore.

SO the movie was not awesome, but not bad, it was good, I watched it in a day and I was never bored since well...they were about to die anytime!

So hard not to give away spoilers. I agree. It was good. Not amazing, but I really did enjoy it. I was so worried. I wanted to punch him! Like don’t leave her alone. Haha she is a hot mess. Poor girl. That would SO be my luck tbh. Get a broken leg and be a hindrance on the whole thing. 

AT least she wanted to move forward and try to save them. With a busted leg! But it was sure lucky she had a doctor with her ;) That is all I am saying.

There was this one time when they were walking and I was all, damn, have you two ever been in the woods!? I could see where they were and then boom, catastrophe.

Yes, she did luck out with the doctor. And he was lucky that she was a restless soul and wanted to push on. Sometimes you can’t do the logical thing. Mannnn they were not woodsy people AT all. I was surprised she wasn’t since she did a lot of photography in lots of different places in the world. Him? Not surprised at all. He is good at being a doctor and he is a London boy after all...so his skills are to be limited. I was in awe at what he was able to do. 

True. I get that he did not know. But she should have or? What did she actually do? War zones? Nature photos? Did I miss it? Maybe she was not woodsy either.

I think she just went where they told her to go. Her last assignment was a nazi/skinhead thing. So she must’ve not been too woodsy herself. But still...did neither of them watch any shows about nature even in high school? Some basic things to make it easier to survive. They did well enough, but the one scene I wanted to scream at them. Like I could see that coming for sure. Good thing that dog was there! He saved their butts a lot. 

Praised be the dog! Yes that is the one important thing to know. But they were tired and hungry. I know I have been a mess this year, I could not have walked in those woods either lol.

OH and that explains things about her, I tend to miss things sometimes when S is talking ;)

That is true. She was in a lot of pain and tired. Kuddos to her for doing all that on a broken leg. He made one heck of cast for her.

Dunno how she made it! Oh and the end, no spoilers, but omg I was all omg no no no, walk walk walk, omggggg.

Same! I was screaming! Poor girl!!! Poor guy!!!! WALK DARN YOU WALK! My puppy was even getting into it and barking at the screen. He did not appreciate that dog. He barked when he barked. LOL I loved that little dog. I felt bad for him too.

I do wish there had been more emotion. It felt very dry for the situation they were in. They had some here and there, but I wanted her to freak out more when she found out. They seemed very calm. If it were me and BF? I would’ve been freaking out for about an hour screaming and throwing a fit. After that? I would be okay and already walking. They wasted so much time waiting and waiting. 

Yes, I would have freaked too and screamed. More screaming please!!!!!!! You are on top of a freaking mountain! Please scream a bit and then start walking.

I can see him not showing as much emotion. 1) Doctor, so rational 2) Male, so prideful and 3) British, breed to show little emotion. So I get him being calm. Her? She is an American woman who is reckless and emotional and thinks with her gut and heart. She needed one good freak out especially when he told her the moment she woke up. 0_0 In pain and stranded? 

Well, at least he could have gone all “Blimey, we are on top of a mountain. How surreal. What a jolly good laugh.”

LOLLL something. I mean...he did have a mini freakout when he almost fell off after 10 mins. >_> Not an outdoorsman AT all. But yes, besides that...I did enjoy their chemistry and how they worked together. It took time since they are two different people in all aspects. I’m glad they didn’t work well at first. Made it realistic. 

So different! And just cos you are stranded does not mean you will click, so yes I liked that too. The chemistry felt real. And then it got more...we might die! And then end. And then, well I am happy about the end cos I was worried there.

Kuddos to the writers. They made the people feel real. They needed more of real reaction at the beginning, but I was good with their character development as the story went along. I so did not expect what happened with his wife. And I agree. I was happy with the ending overall. I wanted more tho….

Something, something more...I get that and I wanted that too. I cannot put my finger on it.

But overall I enjoyed it as it really was about life and death.

I did not like Mark at all. I agree there needed to be something. Something felt missing. Maybe more of an epilogue would’ve been nice. 

It was a book right? Maybe there is something in it?

Yess it is a book. Never heard of it before. There might be more in there. Usually is the case. 

I am reading reviews. Stuck in the mountains for weeks- He is a mountain climbing doc...yeah, it sounds different

Psh. Yeah - the writers of the film cut that out! Bloody guy almost fell OFF the mountain. LOLLL

Yup, eagle scout, had a backpack filled with supplies with him from his recent climb. Slept on his wife’s grave and reviewers call him a bit loony

0_0 I think I like this version better. He may have not been outdoorsy and he seemed to be a private fella, but I adored him.

Agreed, agreed. Prolly one of those rare times the movie is better. Lol! So, anything else to add? I’m trying to think of more non-spoilers...hard tho….

Too hard not to spoil things so...Good movie with slow moments.

Yes, a good movie. Not amazing but it was an interesting watch. It is hard to take your eyes off the screen even with the slow moments, because goodness knows what is going to happen. The human spirit and the dog spirit is strong for sure. If these two knuckleheads can survive, I am sure I could...maybe...I would be a wimp about the broken leg thing. 

It is a miracle they survived! And I am sure we would have made it, through without a doc it would have been hard.

Yesss, that would’ve been our downfall if it was us. I can fix cuts and bruises, but broken legs and ribs? Naw. Sorrrreeeee you might not survive if I had to be your doc!

Lol. Ok a new month is coming soon and we have another movie to pick :)

Saturday Movie: Viceroy's House

Thoughts:

It felt messy. It started well, but then it also started to fall apart. The Boneville story mostly took place in dark rooms where met and discussed. Not the most enthralling, but I guess it could have been if it had only focused on that and later what followed, massacres and people fleeing, and war.

Then there was the lovestory between two servants, and that could have been interesting too. But not it felt choppy and I never saw them be in love. They just were. Because the story jumped between that and so much more. This could have been the main focus and in the background we could have seen what was happening.

As it was now, sort of boring and jumpy.

I did almost cry at the end though. That was the best part. Which is sad.

My thoughts:

Oh I actually enjoyed this one! Haha, I knew it would happen one day. I always pick the most boring movies based on a book. But this one worked.

Judi Dench was great as Victoria. So sassy and tired. Poor Queen Victoria!

Ali Fazal was great as Abdul Karim and well he sure was fine to look at like good old Vicky said ;)

Eddie Izzard, oh I totally saw him as Bertie, honestly applauds there.

So yes great cast! And I even laughed a few times.

The story is about how Victoria develops a friendship with a clerk from India. He teachers her Urdu and more. And she confides in him. Because he real, and not like the rest.

This one I can actually recommend.

Saturday Night Movie: Tulip Fever

Thoughts:

Oh yes, it was another boring one. How do I pick these? I try my best. I take the lesser known, many times based on a book and I watch them. It usually takes me a couple of mornings as that is when I watch.

A rich man gets a new wife since he wants a child. He then wants their portrait painted. And his wife hooks up with the painter.

A servant is in love with a man dealing in tulips. The whole town is tulip crazy. 

I do not get how the woman and the painter fell in love. I'd say the best acting was from Holiday Grainger who played Maria, the servant. And of course Christoph Walz is always good.

I can not recommend it. But hey good for a rainy day.

New Moon: The movie

I am going to keep this short.

- The movie was better than the first.

-The lines were still so CHEESY it was killing me.

-Lautner did a great job, and the wolves were awesome.

-Can't say the same thing about Stewart and Pattison and they lack chemistry.

-Better directing and special effects

-Much much better than the book.

Bottom line: Better than than the books, better than the first movie, and if you survive the cheesy then one can watch it without feeling you're throwing away the money.

Oh I am gonna get so much hating from fans now. But it's not that I am dissing it, no it was ok :)
