I actually enjoyed this one more than book 1, I do like when they keep on getting better!

Opal is having a hard time. She works as a cleaner, that is she buys the right to clean out places and sell the stuff she finds. But her dad cursed her so she has bad luck.

First, I found myself liking her dad, and that is so bad. He is a dragon, and he is not a nice, person. But I do feel that deep down he does care, but he is a dragon and dragons can not care for humans. Yes, I totally like her dad. But he is an overbearing crazy dragon that covets humans for his hoard.

So in this one she has to make money to pay off her dad so that she an be free. But she has constant bad luck. To help her she has Nick, who is like part cyborg, or when does you go fully cyborg?

There is weird things happening. There is running from dragons and dragon politics. There is a Julius cameo! Omg, I have missed him so much. I love love Julius...looooove.

Oh, the ending is SO evil, so very evil

This series is fun, Opal is strong and all she wants is freedom. The DFC is one crazy city, and the world is fantastic. Dragons, spirits and magic.

Narration Emily Woo Zeller
I have listened to her in  a few different audios now and i do like her narration. I like her different voices and she brings emotion and feel to the story. She makes Opal for me

Life in the magical mess of the Detroit Free Zone is never easy. When you’re laboring under the curse of a certain prideful, overbearing dragon, it can be down right impossible.
My name is Opal Yong-ae, and I’m a Cleaner. At least, I used to be. Thanks to the supernatural bad luck that turns everything I do against me, these days I’m more of a walking disaster. Getting rid of this curse is the only way to get my life back. Unfortunately, dragon magic is every bit as sneaky and deadly as the monsters behind it, and just as hard to beat.
But I’ve never been one to take her doom at face value. Cornered doesn’t mean defeated, and in an awakened city that rules herself, dragons are no longer the biggest powers around.

Audio: Minimum Wage Magic - Rachel Aaron

By: Rachel Aaron
Narrated by: Emily Woo Zeller
Series: Detroit Free Zone (DFZ), Book 1
Length: 9 hrs and 45 mins
Unabridged Audiobook
Release date: 01-08-19
Language: English
Publisher: Audible Studios

My Thoughts:
I miss the Heartstrikers! I must sadly say that there are no cameos. But people from the series are mentioned. Yes I kept hoping someone would pop up, even if it had made no sense. Cos I miiiiiss them!

But to this book then. Opal is a cleaner. She cleans out places and sell the good stuff. She studied magic at College, but she needs money, and fast. It takes a while to learn why. She also has a troubled family relationship (I was sort of right, but not quite.) She just wants to do her own thing and I can respect that.

She also has the coolest AI sidekick called Sybil, who is in her phone, or whatever electronics she can be in.

I do not want to say too much about the story, but there is a magical mystery to solve. And she will have help.

The DFZ is such a freaky place, and the story never gets boring. But yes I missed the old gang. Who wouldn't! I also really wonder if the next book is about Opal too or someone new...I certainly look forward to more! It was a good book, and I hope it will be as great as a certain other series

Narrator Emily
I have only listened to her once before and I think that was goo.  Now Emily brought in another world and I felt she was Opal. Since all those others I have talked about, well to hear their voices I would have to hear THE voice.

Conclusion:
Fun, exciting.

Audio: A dragon of a different color - Rachel Aaron

To save his family from his tyrannical mother, Julius had to step on a lot of tails. That doesn't win a nice dragon many friends, but just when he thinks he's starting to make progress, a new threat arrives. Turns out, things can get worse. Heartstriker hasn't begun to pay for its secrets, and the dragons of China are here to collect. When the Golden Emperor demands his surrender, Julius will have to choose between loyalty to the sister who's always watched over him and preserving the clan he gave everything to protect.

My thoughts:
Omg omg omg. First, omg so hard to get a hold of this one. I listened to the last one 2,5 months ago and I have been dyyyyyyying for more.

Especially since we finally understood what happened in China! And got to see Julius free the Fs and Chelsea and I was all mooooore!

And this one begins with the Golden Emperor coming and I was all omg, finally finally finally! But OMG how she was evil. Every time we were getting close to something a Marci chapter came instead. And the Marci chapters were good since she is dead and all 0_0 but I so wanted to see all the threads come together. The Golden Emperor people! The golden Emperor!

And yes yes I wanted to see if Marci managed to come back from the dead too.

Not to mention the world is ending as Algonquin is going koko. And Bob's plans coming together. SO many things going on.

Damn, I can not write a normal review. One night I woke up at 4 am and could not fall back asleep. So I listened to this cos I thought about it always, always! Took me under 4 days and I tried to cram in as much listening time as I could. Because I could not stop.

Also I loved seeing more of Fredrick, he is the coolest butler ever.

As always, making a mess of things, LOL. It is just that good, I can not write something clever

Conclusion:
SO if you have NOT started this series, what are you waiting for? Oh and listen, cos Vikas Adam is awesome!

Narration
Duh, Vikas Adam is awesome!

Audio: No good dragon goes unpunished - Rachel Aaron

To keep his clan together and his skin intact, Julius is going to have to find a way to make his bloodthirsty siblings play fair. But there's more going on in Heartstriker Mountain than politics. Every family has its secrets, but the skeletons in Bethesda's closet are dragon sized, and with Algonquin's war looming over them all, breaking his clan wide open might just be the only hope Julius has of saving it.

Audio: One good dragon deserves another - Rachel Aaron

After barely escaping the machinations of his terrifying mother, two all-knowing seers, and countless bloodthirsty siblings, the last thing Julius wants to see is another dragon. Unfortunately for him, the only thing more dangerous than being a useless Heartstriker is being a useful one. Now that he's got an in with the Three Sisters, Julius has become a key pawn in Bethesda the Heartstriker's gamble to put her clan on top. Refusal to play along with his mother's plans means death, but there's more going on than even Bethesda knows. Heartstriker futures are disappearing, and Algonquin's dragon hunter is closing in. Now, with his most powerful family members dropping like flies, it's up to Julius to save the family that never respected him and prove once and for all that the world's worst dragon is the very best one to have on your side.

My thoughts:
Omg, I looove this series. The second half was so omg, and the last 8 hours in listened to in a day cos I COULD NOT STOP. I know I do not give 5s but what the hell, maybe I should start! That does it, 5 it is, I freaking adored this book!

Oh and I adore Vikas Adam too! In the end I have no idea whether he is male or female cos these voices are the voices of the people in the book. He is freaking fantastic.

LIke omg, so good!

Can't I just write hearts and let that be it? Nope? Fine.

Ok, so, omg so good!

fine, fine! I will try.

Julius (omg, I love him! I want to meet him and just adore him forever. He is so not alpha. He is just a really nice guy *coughs* dragon*). Where was I? Right Julius. His family is trouble as always. There is a dragon hunter after him. But at least he has Marci and her pet spirit Ghost (omg Ghost, did not see that coming!). And Marci is always cool.

Bob!!!!! I love Bob!

Justin, you fool, adorable. And Amealia was a hoot! Chealsea is always cool. Damn that Estella! Bethesda is such a first class dragon bitch, mommy of the year for sure. Katia sure upped her game. Bob's pigeon is awesome. Grrrr Algoquin!

Omg the dragon lore was amazeballs.

OMG those last hours, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!

Book 2 was sure better than the first (which was amazing too), I do fear book 3 now since this one was so good. But hey even though it just ends up being amazing and not amazeballs I will be fine.
You all must start this series.

Narrator
Vikas Adam is the best! Looooove him and his narration.
This series is a MUST listen. DO not read it. LISTEN to it. I might just be a tad in love with him.

Edit. I should not have looked at what else he has narrated cos omg, that guy is HAWT

Cover
I know I know, super dull, I had to buy the mp3 since I can not download. But this is the other one

Audio: Nice dragons finish last - Rachel Aaron

As the smallest dragon in the Heartstriker clan, Julius survives by a simple code: keep quiet, don’t cause trouble, and stay out of the way of bigger dragons. But this meek behavior doesn't fly in a family of ambitious magical predators, and his mother, Bethesda the Heartstriker, has finally reached the end of her patience.

Now, sealed in human form and banished to the DFZ--a vertical metropolis built on the ruins of Old Detroit--Julius has one month to prove that he can be a ruthless dragon or kiss his true shape goodbye forever. But in a city of modern mages and vengeful spirits where dragons are considered monsters to be exterminated, he’s going to need some serious help to survive this test.

He only hopes humans are more trustworthy than dragons...

My thoughts:
This one was as good as I hoped it to be, yay, I have wanted a good UF series, and hey it was audio so win win. I am really getting into audio.

Julius is a horrible dragon. He likes humans, he is nice and he does not want to rule the world. I mean come on Julius! Shape up and create an empire ;) I really liked him, he was just so not a a "good" dragon. But he is a smart dragon.

Marci is a mage, and human. She was nice, and well...not as nice as Julius. I think she had more dragon in her ;)

In this future magic came back, Detroit was destroyed by a spirit and life goes on. Oh and Detroit is a no no zones for dragons and that's where Julius gets thrown by his mummy dearest.

I liked the siblings we saw, liked and liked, some were cold as ice and then there was Bob, you have to love Bob, I loved Bob.

Off on an adventure he goes. There are monsters, dragons, action, humour and fun times!

Narrator: Vikas Adams
I liked his voices for them all. Though Bob did sound really silly. But he did a great job and I could not put the book down.

Review: The Spirit Thief - Rachel Aaron

Eli Monpress is talented. He's charming. And he's a thief.

But not just any thief. He's the greatest thief of the age - and he's also a wizard. And with the help of his partners - a swordsman with the most powerful magic sword in the world but no magical ability of his own, and a demonseed who can step through shadows and punch through walls - he's going to put his plan into effect.

The first step is to increase the size of the bounty on his head, so he'll need to steal some big things. But he'll start small for now. He'll just steal something that no one will miss - at least for a while. Like a king.

My thoughts:
Sure it was good and all and I liked it, but I am feeling negative today. It's just one of those days. (edit: well it was one of those days last week or whenever I wrote this. It all goes together with those other reviews:)

I liked Eli, sure he was a bit too, dunno really, he was just a bit too much of something. Maybe it was the obsession with getting a big bounty on this head, now that just feels silly.

Josef I did not get, he was all I shall fight and not lean on my sword that has been given me (long story.) Nice though, their other partner, she has something. Must be the demon she is fighting inside of herself.

After them comes Miranda..*shrugs*. That was everything about her. Ok I am coming to the bottom of things now. I see. I liked the story, Eli is gonna steal a king, people want to catch him, something big is brewing and there is a cool system of magic. Everything, I mean everything has a spirit. But what the book was lacking was a well built world. A world can't stand on magic alone and I did not feel the world around me. Neither do I know if I want to meet these characters again. They did not make a long lasting impact on me. They worked for a book, but more *shrugs again*.

Conclusion:
Still I enjoyed the ride cos it was light and easy to read. That makes a book more than ok for me. I never struggled with anything, I was swept along. But, yeah, there could have been more. Very light fantasy.

B's cover snark:
Wipe that smug look off your face! Yes it just makes me want to slap him
