October 3rd: Best Horror Books

Right, horror *looks at goodreads* I have 6 books placed in horror. Huh, not my favorite genre by a long shot. But at once one of those 6 books screams at me. Damn, it was good.

I recall the claustrophobic feeling I had while reading. It was Fall, dark outside and I was creeped out and turned the blinds since I did not want anyone looking in. That is how a good horror book should be!

The rest, well they were horror, but not scary to me so why even mention them. If you want to feel like there might be something outside in the dark then read this one. And now it is dark outside and I get that is something outside?! feeling again.

September 26th: Favorite UF Books

Well obviously, Mercy Thompson! I still remember where I was when I read book 1 and I devoured it.

October Daye rocks! This is another series that has never strayed from its path and it has stayed strong.

Come on, do you think I would not mention Kate Daniels! But this series did have a rocky start, book 1 and 2 are not the best, Ilona herself said so once ;)

There are more. I do love UF, but I can not mention them all. Well I can, but S needs to go to sleep so we will end here with my top 3 :)

I wrote most of my posts before Sigrid was born, then I wrote a couple after that (the short ones ;) And now I have reached the end so I asked Carole to help out this time :D

Favorite teen romances? Hmmm that is a tough one for sure……

I am about to hear the groans and moans on this one, but it isn’t what it will seem. I promise. But I love the teen romances in the Twilight books. NOT Edward and Belle or Belle and Jacob. I love the side character romances like Rosalie and Emmett or Alice and Casper. I love all the pack members when they find the ones they imprint on. I loved hearing about those romances and love stories. Edward and Belle has nothing on them at all. 

The teen romance that I really love is the love story between the characters in Reincarnation by Suzanne Weyn. SO tragic, SO sad. These two spirits keep finding each other in all these lifetimes, but something always pulls them apart. Some may call this one cheating, because in some of their lifetimes they are not teens, but I totally count this one! This is so good and it takes centuries for them to have their HEA. SO GOOD!!! I need to re-read this.

What is there really to say? I am of course a lover of books, poetry, movies, plays, and music. Nothing is better than enjoying a cup of tea and immersing yourself in another world and forgetting about the world for just a little bit. September 12th:Favorite Comedy Books

I honestly do not have any. Maybe I do not read them? Back in the day when I still loved Evanovich I used to laugh out loud to her Plum books, but that laughter got stuck in my throat after 7 books. They are not lol worthy anymore, not even giggle worthy, not even smile worthy.

I also remember laughing to Bridget Jone's Diary. Hmm, maybe chick'lit hit my comedy nerve.

I guess in the end I just do not have any favorite comedy books. And I do not read nonfic about comedians either, dunno if they would make me laugh anyway. For me to laugh it has to be amusing, and those things I found here and there in books that are not always comedy books.

August 29th: What are some long running series that you would like to try?

Honestly, they scare me! When I see those 16 series long books all I do is sigh. It's one thing jumping in when there are 3 books out but when there are that many, well I  fear they will go bad. Too many books, too little plot left. I just stay away from them. It would take a lot for me to try a series that has been going on for that long!

I did try that JD Robb series, ugh, book 1 sucked so I never gave it another go. It's also easier to just leave them when they are that long.

So I can not really say that there are any long running series I want to try.

Though when it comes to historical romance I am more willing to try them since there I just tend to jump in ;)

As a living descendant of Artemis the Huntress, private investigator Nikki Glass knows how to track someone down—but this time, her latest case leads to unexpected revelations of lies and betrayal...

My thoughts:
I did not realise my omnibus had a novella in it too. Cool.

In this one Nikki is on her own since she wants to avoid Anderson after what happened in book 2. So she takes a case where a woman needs to find this man. And it gets complicated.

I really can not say a lot. She solves the case. There is some danger.

My thoughts:

From the beginning I had the same issue with this one as book 2. There I just thought that maybe it was not the right time to read it. Well, now I know, it's the book. I just can not connect! Book 1 was nothing special, but it was good enough and I read more in case it got better. It was very light fantasy and fast to read. Anyway, it did not get better. It got worse.

I tried to get through this book but omg so dull! There was nothing magical about it anymore. I started to skim so I would get to the end then I read some reviews of book 4 to see how it ends. Cos I am done done with this series. So done. Bleh, why did I even get this one!?

No! Do not ask me that. This is going to be really short! I honestly do not know. I have the WORST memory. I see reviews and I am all I have to try that author! Then I forget about the name. Because I do not go at once to goodreads to put them on my wishlist. My wishlist I want to keep kind of tiny and then those other authors I try when given a chance.

But hey, what are some authors that YOU have been meaning to read? Give me some ideas who I have to try.

August 15th: Do you think bloggers and authors can really be friends?

This is a tough one. I honestly do not know! I was friendly with this author back in the day and it did feel like I had to write really positive things about her books. But then again that was my early blogging days and like I have said before, I was a spineless creature, lol. But it also felt like when we drifted apart it was tougher, we clashed when I did not enjoy her books anymore. She had these ideas about that if you do not have anything nice to say then do not say anything at all!

I am not dissing all relationships now just because of that early one. When I got over my "author fear" ;) I could take authors as they are. And it does help that there are authors that actually realise that all ratings are good to have. Sometimes you get a 1, sometimes you get a 5. I have hated a book by an author, just to read another book that I ended up loving.

But it is still a rocky road. I have sure seen it on Goodreads when author friends flock and give 5s and loooove the books *eyeroll*. If you are going to be friends with an author you have to be honest too. And the author has to get that.

So yes, bloggers and authors can be friends. But it has to be an equal kind of friendships that is built on honesty.

August 8th: Do you feel pressure to read more in genres that other bloggers read?

Not really. I guess in the beginning I felt I should read more YA cos everyone was reading YA. It was just YA YA YA YA. I felt like I should read some too since everyone was so crazy about it. And sure I still read YA since I see some interesting books now and then, and I do like interesting books :D But I no longer see that YA hype everywhere. I never really followed only YA bloggers either, but still YA was everywhere and I have seen less of it now.

But that really is the only genre I felt a pressure to read. I read almost every other genre anyway. I love them all, I like them for different reasons. Fiction for some reality. Fantasy because I love it. UF for some kick-assness. Historical romance for escapism. And so it goes on, something for every mood, every season.

It was not pressure, but thanks to blogging I decided to try more sci-fi. I was a bit afraid of it because of all the tech stuff, not that interested in that. But you just have to find your niche. And I even read some of the techy stuff in the end and enjoyed that too! So not because of pressure, but because I wanted to try more.

The same goes with mystery/suspense/thrillers. I do not read a lot of that yet, but I have slowly tried some. I have not felt pressure there either, but I have been curious when others have been reading those genres.

That is why blogging is great. It has made me try more new genres.

August 1st: Do you give out one star reviews? 

I do not have a problem with them, but a 1 star book is bad. Really bad. I always have a few because sometimes I live on cloud 9 and believe it will get better. Or maybe I am bored and lazy and do not change books. Those times I give out 1 star reviews.

But most of the time those 1s do not make it far. I dnf them pretty early on. I will not spend my time on reading bad books when I have a million freebie ebooks, when the library keep getting new books and when I still have books on my tbr. No time for 1s!

If a book deserve a 1, then no problemas. A one it is.

July 25th: When you first started blogging were you hesitant to give out a low rating? Has that changed?

Omg yes!! It was SO HARD. I still remember this crappy book I gave a good grade cos I just did not dare give the author a bad rating. It took a year and then I went back and gave that piece of crap a 1 mowuahahahahah. Seriously, it was a really really bad book. Trust me, SO bad.

Most times I was afraid to be honest. Authors were big and scary. Books I read on my own I could give low ratings but those authors scared me. And not only because I did not want to disappoint. I said yes to a lot of crap and the authors were not that nice. I have talked about it before but they got mad for 4s and wtf. It also gave me a really bad picture of self publishing. Which sucks, but I still have those feelings.

Now I am not afraid anymore. If a book is bad, then I am going to give it a low rating. I would hate to read a book that had all 5s and then hate it. I want all ratings. The good and the bad. So I am not afraid to give out the bad ones, they are needed. If they were not around then hell, I'd stop reading reviews! I'd just go back to trusting my gut and honestly buying less books cos it is hard to trust your gut.

I am happy I got over that bump. Now I am more stingy with good ratings instead ;)

My thoughts:
Wooo, finally :D I wanted to wait for the US pb  but could I could not stand it any longer.

I liked seeing Mercy on her own. It was a nice change for once, and yes sure I missed Adam and the pack. We still got Adam's pov as he searched for her. But yes it was nice seeing her do her own thing.

She gets kidnapped and then she escapes. All alone in Europe. Who to trust? We meet some new people, learn some new truths? Nah, not really. But she does it on her own because she is cool like that.

I do not have a lot to say. I mean it is book 10. It was a good one and I liked the new setting. I would actually have preferred more Mercy and less Adam, haha, well he was just trying to find her and she was exploring.

It did not take a long time to read,  mostly cos I wanted time to fly by, and I really wanted to finish it.

Conclusion:
Another good Mercy book

My thoughts:

When I saw this one was free from TOR I went all omg, now now now! I do like MacGuire's books but I had not read this one. It was a novella. I had doubts. But fear not, she is a wonderful writer after all and this was just up my alley.

Nancy comes to a home for well, troubled teens. Her parent's put her there to get better, but the home is not really for that. The women helping them knows very well they are not crazy. They have all been to different worlds. Now they need to learn with the loss of those worlds and being in the real world.

Now this was fascinating. All these worlds, so many worlds! All these kids stumbling in and then out of them. The loss they need to deal with then.

As for the School. Well sinister things are afoot. Nancy are thrown in the middle of things and a good story unfolds.

A really good novella.

July 18th: Do you find it is easier to read and review books that you have picked up on your own? 

Honestly, sometimes it is the exact opposite. Because books I have bought, received or picked up at the library, well I have a low tolerance with those at times. I find it easy to dnf them. To just let them go. While when it comes to review books I try harder to read them.

Books I have picked up on my own, right, so higher tolerance for dnf.

When it comes to books I buy I spend a lot of time investigating them so to say. When it comes to library books I just pick books and yes that might be why I dnf a lot. They are not always for me.

Review books comes first, so I would not say I have it easier to read my own books. They come second, that is if it is not books I really really want. And those I usually get for xmas or my bday. Yes I do not buy books whenever. I  wait for xmas and my bday ;)

When it comes to reviews, well I review everything that I read. So it does not matter what it is.

I guess my question is no? Since everything is equally easy to read and review.

July 11th What are some of your reading habits, good and bad?

Good and bad. Oh I do not know. To good I will count these days my willingness to leave a bad book behind.There are too many books in the world, I can not read them all. So walking away from an just ok one is fine with me.

Bad ones I would count that I have a hard time listening to audio books. It works best if I am out walking. Cos if I try to do it indoors I need my earplugs cos else I hear everything else. So a bad habit is that it takes like a month for me to finish them.

EDIT: This was written in March and update is needed. I have mastered the arts of audiobooks :D I went from finishing one in a month if lucky to in a few days.

A good habit that is kind of bad too is that when I read a book I like I can just read for hours and forget everything. Like peeing.

One bad habit is I sometimes read too fast, I just can not stop myself, sometimes I really love the book and just want to get to the end. And sometimes I am meh about a book and yes just want to get to the end.

But I would say I have good reading habits, I read, that is a good habit :)

For Me....LIFE 

"I watched 4 movies in June. I know right, omg. 4! Of course only one we managed to watch in a single night. None were awesome, but if I have to choose I will go with Life. Sure I did not always keep attention, but omg that ending. That was awesome!"

For Carole.....The Secret Life of Pets

"I didn't watch many movies last month. But this one was good. I love animated films and especially ones about animals. It was super cute and worth the watch even if you're an adult. That cat was for sure my soul animal."

Favorite book:

MY pick is Assassin's Fate by Robin Hobb

"I did not read any truly awesome books either. I read good books and the best one has to go to Assassin's fate because it was the last one in the trilogy and I will miss Fitz and the gang."

Carole's pick is Heart of Stone by Debra Mullins

"Again, nothing crazy good this month, but I did have a couple really good. The best one was Heart of Stone which is a sequel and in some ways better than the first book. The first book was better, but this was almost as good. I loved the characters and the story and the world. So good. I can't wait to read the last book of the series."

Carole and Blodeuedd have been blogging a long while now. The last couple of years the epic duo have been discussing books, watching movies, and even wetting the pen and sharing their stories with the worldwide web. They both love cats, chocolate, and a good story.

June 27th: To request or not to request: how do you limit ARC requests?

I request those that I really really want. Sometimes I do fall for a nice request even if not my genre, but I am all I should give it a go. You never know.

Those emails I get are the easiest to say no to. I just do not bother. They always claim they have read my reviews and then I get a request for something that I would never review. They are always so full of themselves too and come with demands. Those ARC requests I just delete. Less to think about.

I have also gotten better limiting, well good emails ;) My weak point now is netgalley. I try to stay away, but sometimes they just look so shiny! I am sort of glad Edelweiss turns me down 99% of the time, and that I just can not navigate that site.

I also do check that I do not have to many requests, I can not read them all after all. And I want to read some of my own books too, that is the project I started 2 years ago. Read my own books, request less.

June 20th:  Are you on the offense or defense when it comes to your blog?

Let me think....I started the blog 8,5 years ago. At first I just drifted along not making a lot of effort. I found other bloggers and that made me more on the offense. I started doing things. Taking part in tours, being part of those mega giveaways, emailing authors, publishers. Visiting so many other blogs to learn and make friends (I think I have one blog I still follow after 8 years, all others seem to be gone :(.

I used to answer every email I got. Hey I even read all those crappy books I received cos yes I said yes to everything. I spent a lot of time on my blog.

Now, well I still do, but I would say I am more on the defense now. I certainly do not answer every email I get. I mean honestly who has time for that! Yes I get those "this is the 3rd time I am writing you" emails but if you do not hear back then I have deleted your email cos the book was not for me. I do not email around. I do not try to make it big. I have learned that it is fine as it is.

I answer comments, I visit blogs, I take part in what I can, but I am not all must do this and that.

I would not say I am entirely on the defense though, I think I am somewhere in the middle. Blogging makes me happy so I still do a lot.

I feel I have rambled on and not answered anything, lol

Prince FitzChivalry Farseer’s daughter Bee was violently abducted from Withywoods by Servants of the Four in their search for the Unexpected Son, foretold to wield great power. My thoughts:

I always loved Fitz, and omg the things she put him through. I still remember crying in book 1, or was it book 2? Well she sure put him through a lot. And then came another trilogy and she continued to torment him. And then came this trilogy and omg FITZ! At least he was happy for a little while and he had his wife, and a daughter. But then Molly died, and then Bee was taken. Come on! Stop being so cruel to the poor man!

And that is where we are now. Fitz and the Fool (and others) are in the dragon city of Kelsingra and on their way to Clerres to find Bee, or kill the mofos that took her.

Bee is with her captors also on route to Clerres and I just want to kick those freaking bastards. She is a child!

I really despise the Servants and the Whites. Let's bring down holy fire on those cruel bastards.

She brings in the liveships again (never did like that series, she was so cruel there too). But the ships are fascinating.

More dragons. A bit more learned about the Elderlings.

Bee started to grow on me.

I still do not care for the Fool.

Did I like the end? Hmmm, yes and no. At least it finally felt like an ending to the series. Some calm before whatever storm comes next. The first trilogy did not have a good ending. The second, sort of. This one, I guess it fits. Still...

I just ramble on. I do not know what to say. OH, do NOT start with this one. Do not be an idiot. You have to read them all. Or at least the first trilogy.

June 13th: Do you Cross post your reviews on Amazon?

Not all of them. Amazon is just so nasty sometimes. I mean I do not even post a lot there and still the comments I have gotten have been worse than GR, where I post a lot. Not that I have gotten a lot, but it's always someone trying to defend the book, and they have obviously not even read my review. Once someone even came back to apologize cos they had commented on the wrong review. I just feel Amazon is weird.

BUT, I do post reviews on amazon and those are the ones I have gotten from publishers or authors. Not the books I have read on my own. I might just be too lazy to post them all to be honest. I do not even bother to post NG reviews there all the time.

I do not like amazons ratings either. They have like two that mean good and the rest are crap. I just end up giving everything the same rating even when I have given different ones on GR.

So my answer it, yes sometimes.

Audiobook: The Dispatcher and Tell Me Something Tuesday : Picks for Summer 2017

My thoughts:

Since this one was free I was all yes please. Oh and narrated by Quinto! Nice. He did well, and I do like his voice.

The story was interesting and weird. It seems that you can bring people back from the dead. How? Nobody knows. Strange but yes like I said interesting. The book follows Tony who helps a cop find a fellow dispatcher that has gone missing. We learn more about crime, how to get around the dispatcher issue and the darker side of dispatching.

It was short, but hey it still takes a long time for me to listen so I was all for that.
