The Obelisk Gate - NK Jemisin

The season of endings grows darker as civilization fades into the long cold night. Alabaster Tenring – madman, world-crusher, savior – has returned with a mission: to train his successor, Essun, and thus seal the fate of the Stillness forever.

It continues with a lost daughter, found by the enemy.

It continues with the obelisks, and an ancient mystery converging on answers at last.

The Stillness is the wall which stands against the flow of tradition, the spark of hope long buried under the thickening ashfall. And it will not be broken.

My thoughts:
By the GODS! This was so freaking boring! It started from page 1. Everything I felt for book 1 was just poof gone! And I do have that problem with her books. That blood moon whatever series, dnfed from start. Her first series, loved book 1 then it just went down. They are not consistent for me.

That woman from book 1 stayed in one place and was boring
Her daughter was in another place and took a bigger place in the book and yawn

Utter disappointment. I should just have quit.

  1. Yep, it does sound like you should have just quit.

  2. That sucks. I had heard good things about the first book. I guess I will skip this series. No big deal, one less book on the pile.

  3. Oh dang, that's too bad. I was hoping from the great cover that it would have been a less boring book.

  4. ouch 400 pages of boredom, not good

  5. I tried one of her books and didn't finish it. I don't think I'll try another one.

  6. Hope your next book is better for you!

    1. I am sure it was, I mean I read this in Jan or something

  7. Aw that's a bummer. I'm not super surprised though, seems like I heard the same thing somewhere else. Kinda boring.

  8. I probably liked this one more than you, but I agree it was not as good as book one. I'll still be reading the last book (I think it's a trilogy, at least) but there will be a lot riding on it.

    1. I have been the one to tell the library to get the books so if I do not tell them to get book 3 they might forget

  9. I could not do 400 pages of nothing. Eep. So sorry Linda.

  10. You usually do quit so I'm surprised you hung in there for over 400 pages!

  11. Oh no, what a bummer! I haven't started this series yet but I'll definitely keep in mind that book 2 isn't as good as the first.

  12. I can't believe you didn't quit. 450 pages of boring. That's an awful lot. I hope you find something to make up for this one.

  13. I have both of these books here to read. Bummer to hear this.
