Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post on Rainy Day Ramblings where Rainy discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging. Weigh in and join the conversation by adding your thoughts in the comments. If you want to do your own post, grab the question and answer it on your blog.

May 1st: What are things that annoy you right now in the book market/ blogging?

Annoy me? Hmmmm
Dang, I can not think of anything right now! This is one of the time when I should read other posts first and go all aha! And then write a post ;)

So in general terms things that annoy me are:

Sorry, but negative reviews are a must. There was this book I really wanted but it was all positive reviews and I was all no thanks! Negative, positive, those books that just leave you without any feelings at all. I need those reviews, I need those thoughts. I can not live on sunshine and puppies alone. Good for you if you have a blog like that, awesome, but I could not. And the thing that annoys me is when people that tell me everyone should be positive and only that, I just say ha, no, never. I can only be honest. Honest to a fault. My point is, that which annoys me is other telling you what to do.

Another thing that annoyed me is when Netgalley went almost US only on everything! Arghhh. But whatever, I fell luckily in love with audiobooks so I do not miss it. But it was not cool. There are readers all over the world.

Books that annoy me are books that have Girl in the title. They can obvi still be good! But I am so over it.

  1. I'm not into the blogging world enough right now for anything to irritate me.

It looks like the little one is still bundled up even if the snow is gone.

  2. Well that sucks about Netgalley going all US poo poo!! Hmm, positive/negative. Now if you're talking being honest without book bashing I'm all for it because I also want honesty but I never bash a book, even if I hate it. Because I'm just one person and a review (even one I get paid for) is just my own opinion. So yes if I hated a book you would know it but not because I bashed it. I also always point out something that I especially liked in a book, even if it's one I didn't like there is always something I liked in it. I also don't usually rate my reviews because of the opinion thing again, I want you to know why I liked/disliked the book because of what I said not because it got 5 stars. Thanks Blodeuedd

    1. SO sad! But, eh, ebooks come last for me anyway so no great loss.

As long as there are negative things there too, if that is, they are warranted then be as positive as you want :) But yes the thing I do not like are those that do not even want that. I have been told to be say something nice or not say anything at all! SO per that then your reviews would be bad too. Only positive 5 stars are good

    2. Oh I see you're talking about authors who only want good reviews posted. Yes that totally bugs me and yes you can say something you didn't like about a book without being a bully about it.

  3. Aww cute pictures.

I write negative reviews when I read one that I don't like. I have one coming up in the next month on my blog that I didn't care for.

  4. Sunshine and puppies!!!! lol

Yes, to all your gripes. I don't think I'll ever understand the negative review drama. I would say at least 60+% of my purchases are for books with 3 or below star ratings. That's how I judge what's right for me. Those reviews tend to say more.

    1. I know that authors want 5 stars only (well many do), but I just saw one like that on GR and backed away. It had 4.6 in ratings! Only 5s and 1 4. I have never heard of it, no one I knew had reviewed and all gushed about the book, and I was all hell no! SOrry, but no book is that good

  5. I think that's on everybody's hit list today: the girl in book titles. :/

  6. Love it. And I am with you on NetGalley going US. I hate those Wish For It on some publishers. And another who used to say yes all the time now not. Generally my reviews are all positive because I am pretty careful about what I choose, but I have had a few yucks!

    1. Wish for it is SO evil, sooooo evil. I had one that said yes all the time too, but now nothing. Not that I have requested anything for months ;) Sort of just gave up

  7. I try to highlight both the positive and negative aspects about a book, but sometimes there is more of one than the other. I can't help how I feel about a book, but I can be honest about what I did and didn't like about it. You might love what I disliked. :)

    1. So true. That is why I need those disliked things too. What you dislike I might really love. Same with what you love I might really dislike :)

  8. There are too many girls in titles, very true. At least make some of then women! :)

  9. I am with you on the whole NetGalley issue. So discriminatory. As for all positive review, I have learn to shy away from books that never get a negative review.

    1. It is just silly to let us believe that a book never has a neg one. If I buy I need to look at both and then I buy. A neg does not make my shy away

  10. Wtf on the Netgalley went almost US only on everything that's nuts!!!! I'm kind of hesitant on the only positive review type books

    1. Awesome for a great book, but even books I love some hate so, that is life

  11. I agree with you! We need negative reviews and I have bought books because of negative reviews.

  12. Few things annoy me about the book or blogging world, but if I have to pick something I would say toxic attitudes. And that would extend to bullying as well as the mob mentality you see in some book communities these days where members practically go on a witch hunt to shame authors or readers. Why can't we all just get along? :)

    1. Omg well yes! Totes that. I try to stay away and honestly since I started being less on twitter I feel better cos there is always a witch hunt going on

  13. I agree. A reviewer has to be allowed to be honest or what's the use. As a reader, I want to know what people think about it even if they can't like much about it or even if they have to DNF and why (not that I'm advocating bashing for bashing sake).

    1. Does anyone really bash for bashing's sake? Though then again, when I left a positive only review but with a 3 I was called out for bashing so *eyeroll*

  14. Ohhh I did not realize NetGalley was almost all US-that is annoying but I am glad you love your audiobooks!

  15. I didn’t know NG had done that until I read another post today about it. I have been blogging now seven years and back in the beginning, some of the best blogs with the largest followings were international, and those bloggers used to get copies of books that we couldn’t get in the US. Why the change? That is just shitty. I appreciate that you are always honest. I get tired of people only writing the positives in their reviews. I need to know the good and bad because I get tired of picking up books that someone wrote a positive review for only to hate it. Give me the good bad and the ugly so I can decide for myself!

    1. I have no idea. Before it did say that first they will give to US and Canada, but we still got good ones. And now we can not even do that, instead we can wish for it, which means nothing :(

Yes the good the bad and the ugly :D

  16. Yeah, the Netgalley thing annoyed me too.
I tried to have only positive (3 star +) reviews on my blog when I started it but I just can't do it. Some books just make me too stabby to hold my tongue, lol.
That said, I'm happy to DNF more now so I have less 1 + 2 Star reads. :)

  17. The whole NetGalley thing bugs the heck out of me! Sure - I am in the US, but that is so not cool...it is all ebooks so who bloody cares?

    1. Right!I guess they just do not want us to review

  18. Look! No snow. :D Nice to see the weather is clearing up for you. :)

  19. No snow. That's great. Spring has finally come.

I've bought books based on DNF or 1 star reviews. The things that the reader didn't like about those books, I loved. I then gave those same books 4.5 and 5 star reviews.

  20. I agree with you about the lack of negative reviews thing. I write both positive and negative and I think negative reviews are necessary.
