My thoughts:

I do love cowboys, though I can  not really call Holt a cowboy. It seems he did spend two years on a ranch, but I was not on that ranch seeing him doing cowboy things ;) Instead he is a doctor, he was a surgeon during the war, and is more a gentleman than a cowboy. Sad indeed, but I still like him.

But this man so needed a slap on the head. He comes to Galveston looking for a woman he always loved. A woman who married someone else, and who was so just toying with him. But he has this notion that he must marry her cos his uncle told him too. Men! I did like him, but he needed to take of those rose colored glasses.

Because then he meets Felicity. Who has spent her entire life taking care of her father. Who is drinking too much. Who lost their ranch. And who is suffering from PTS from the war. She was so hardworking and I felt sorry for her. She tried being so tough, but what she needed was to see the truth too. Another truth.

These two have a long dance. He thinks he is in love with someone else. She just wants to shield her father. I liked that they got to know each other, that they had time to fall in love (without realizing it). That he spent time being a doctor and getting to know her father. Oh and there is another secret plot too that brought some suspense and drama. Seeecret.

I enjoyed it.

I liked her different voices and I did find myself caught up in their world. 

Review: To Have and To Hold - Leigh Greenwood

The Blaine brothers learned how to survive at a young age the hard way. But after a life of working odd jobs, Colby thinks he might just be ready to settle down. Until his fiancé jilts him for a man with more money. 

Naomi Kessling is already plagued by nightmares and a violent past when her wagon train is attacked. Colby saves her life, but Naomi is convinced he's been sent by the army to arrest her for a crime she can't remember. 

Colby will help her face her nightmares, but will her love be enough to break down the wall he's built around his heart?

My thoughts:

This was truly a western. They were on the trail west and all the dangers that that meant.

Naomi and her family are heading west (but are the entire town running from something? *insert music of almost doom*.) First we have weather that does what it wants and not what the travelers want. Dangerous rivers, killer snakes and do not forget Indians. The whole caravan is also very tense cos of something that must have happened for them to leave it all behind. Which was a bit extreme but hey their choice.

In comes Colby, all around nice guy who knows about the land and agrees to help these poor lost travelers. Like I said he was a good guy, but he has some issues from his past that makes a romance not in the cards.

Romance. Of course there is romance! Just cos the heroine do not trust Colby and Colby is all arghh issues from my past, does not mean there will not be romance ;) I liked that it happened slow. They became friends and sparks slowly started to form. But they had some things to work through first.

Conclusion:

All in all a nice western romance that shows the hard life and how everyone had to work together to survive.

Carla Reece had never met anyone more infuriating in her life. Her new foreman claimed to be some foreign royalty who promised to leave in a year. Still, a year was way too long to spend with a man who made her madder than a wet hen and weak in the knees all at the same time.

Ivan may have charmed everyone in town into thinking he was the perfect gentleman, but Carla knew better. There had to be a chink in his armor-a red-hot passion under that calm, cool gaze. But once she finds it, she may be in for more than she ever bargained for...

My thoughts:

A cowboy prince, now that is something new for me and I liked it. Not to mention most books I have read about cowboys have been modern ones, but here we got real cowboys. And I do love cowboys. 

Carla loves her ranch. She is outspoken and is being courted by two men, cos she is pretty and the farm is big. But she wants something else. I did like that she was no weak miss who could do nothing. She was a real woman in a hard era. 

Ivan is a Polish prince who came to America to make a fortune (or at least get some money). He is a cowboy, he fought in the war, and he is a true gentleman. He is stylish and his tongue is golden. Anyone would melt when he was sweet to them, well all except Carla. And I do like a couple who banter. 

At the back of my head I had heard that voice tell me that it could not work, and he sure could not take her back to Poland. And as always I wondered how this love story would work out. 

But the book wasn't just about the love story. No we got cattle thieves, Carla dealing with her brother who gambled away half the ranch, and everyday dealings in town. And of course trying to deal with Ivan who shows up and tells her he will take care of the other half of the ranch. 

Conclusion:

It was a good love story, and I sure liked this cowboy prince. He is not average cowboy and she is not your average Texas woman.
