Review: Dead and Gone - Charlaine Harris

Sookie Stackhouse, book 9

Genre: paranormal romance
Pages: 312
Published: 2009

Except for Sookie Stackhouse, folks in Bon Temps, Louisiana, know little about vamps-and nothing about weres.

Until now. The weres and shifters have finally decided to reveal their existence to the ordinary world. At first all goes well. Then the mutilated body of a were-panther is found near the bar where Sookie works-and she feels compelled to discover who, human or otherwise, did it.

But there's a far greater danger threatening Bon Temps. A race of unhuman beings-older, more powerful, and more secretive than vampires or werewolves-is preparing for war. And Sookie finds herself an all-too human pawn in their battle.

I think it's time for a short review again, what else to do after 9 books. How much could I have to say? Other than go on and on about Eric.

1. Reason you chose this book.
After 8 books I want to know what happens. I can give up now. Not cos I love the series, just cos I get a bad case of what happened OCD

2. Reasons you liked or disliked this book.
- Eric, omg, I liked page 92
"Darling you can nail my ass anytime." Lol, if she does not end up with him I will be so mad!
- Same old same old, not bad, not excellent.
- The plot is the same as in all books, Sookie has man problems, someone tries to kill her and there is a mystery. Yes it works better than in previous books but something must happen soon or they will truly stagnate.
- I honestly thought something more would happen when the shifters came out but nothing. Instead there was a fairy-war.
- In the end a nice book that I read really fast, simple and ok.

3. Reasons you are recommending this book.
- If you have read the previous ones then I guess keep on reading. If you haven't read the books then give book 1 a chance, if only so to get to book 4 with the famous shower scene.

Btw. I do hate the covers.

  2. The covers all suck. I stopped after book 2. I wish I would have never watched the show. It kind of ruined the book for me.

  3. I think I stopped after book 4.

  4. I've read up to book five. So by book nine she's still not with Eric? Argh!! What is she waiting for?

  5. Agree: hate the cover. Also agree that it is not the best of the books... at all. Dead in the Family is better I think.

  6. Oh man, I still need to get to this one. Oh, and she can't be with Eric, 'cuz he is MINE! *does evil stare to anyone who thinks differently*

I like this series because it is a fun read and nothing more. Besides, gotta love Eric.

  9. SPOILER ZONE*SPOILER ZONE* SPOILER ZONE* SPOILER ZONE*

If you don't want to be spoiled don't read my comment. If you (like me) don't care here it goes...

I bought and read all 10 Sookie Stackhouse books - it was my holiday treat. I neither loved them nor hated them but some moments in them were simply fantastic. These things will happen in next installments...

Eric will end up with Sookie, at least for some time (the jury is out for how long) - he will simply trick her into the relationship. Bill will reunite with his old flame. Sookie and Eric will meet some family in the tenth book.

  12. I must confess that I'm a reader who does love this series but I do agree that formula is the same for every book and that it should probably end sooner rather than later. However, Charlaine Harris' secretary told me that there are 13 books planned for the series.

  13. I actually really hated this book. I had been enjoying the serious and was really looking forward to Dead and Gone and it turned out to be awful, with characters appearing in the book for no reason and than what Sookie goes through in the end, which was so unconvincing. A real disappointment. My favorite book so far is the one where Eric loses his memory.

  15. Nice short review!
I don't believe Sookie ends up with Eric. Sorry to say, but I believe Eric has to die because of the connection with Sookie. She doesn't like it and has made it very clear she wants a living guy to have kids with and make dinner for and be out in the sunshine with. Personally, I think since the very first book C.Harris has been setting it up for Sam to be end up with Sookie. He's her best friend, she can't always read his mind, he's a shifter so day light and eating aren't an issue. While I too adore Eric, I think Sam is the perfect fit for her. He meets all her 'must haves' in a husband list. And they have great chemistry together.

    :o)

Noooooooooooo, god no, not sam! I will be so utterly disappointed if that happens. I am sure I could have liked him but after seeing her have sex with him in the series he was ruined for me
