Review: Three days to Dead - Kelly Meding

When Evangeline Stone wakes up naked and bruised on a cold slab at the morgue—in a stranger’s body, with no memory of who she is and how she got there—her troubles are only just beginning. Before that night she and the two other members of her Triad were the city’s star bounty hunters, mercilessly cleansing the city of the murderous creatures living in the shadows, from vampires to shape-shifters to trolls. Then something terrible happened that not only cost all three of them their lives but also convinced the city’s other Hunters that Evy was a traitor—and she can’t even remember what it was.

Now she’s a fugitive, piecing together her memory, trying to deal some serious justice—and discovering that she has only three days to solve her own murder before the reincarnation spell wears off. Because in three days Evy will die again—but this time there’s no second chance.

My thoughts:
Perhaps I just had too many expectations about this one, I mean it was good, but it wasn't great. I am sure many will and have loved this book, but, there the but is again. How to say this, sure if the next book was given to me I would read it, but would I go out of my way to get it, no.

Oh see, now you all think I did not enjoy it. Cos I did. It was fast paced filled with questions and some sexual tension. Evy was as kick-ass as anyone. She had three days to live and she was going to get to the bottom of things, instead of living life to the fullest for those last three days. Her love-interest was Wyatt, her handler, all sweet and, oh that man just loved her from afar. Great guy. Then there was the myriad of other beings, elves, evil goblins, vampires, weres and all different things that lived and hunted in that city.

Great worldbuilding, cool story, some awesome ass-kicking, what weren't there to love. Still, why did I not love it as much as I could since UF is for me...perhaps it was the stress of wanting to finish a book this week. I am not used to stress-reading. I may have ruined the book for me.

In the end I would still recommend this book to fans of UF. It just was so cool, and I do know that there are some UF books that I have thought to be ok and that later have become awesome. So perhaps this is one of those.

I will leave it with that I do hope to read book 2 one day and find out.

This one is hard, cos it was still good and a page-turner so...good

  1. I've been a fan of this cover for a long time. UF can be stressful reading and I'm not always in the mood for it. Love that the hero loved from afar. One of my favorite plots. Great review!

  2. Good, but didn't live up to expectations... I hate when that happens.

  3. Ahh, I hate that. Were it does and says all the right things but it just doesn't reach the mark.

  4. I am sorry that this book didn't live up to your expectations. I haven't read much of UF, so I think this is a book I will definitely avoid or it might spoil the genre for me.

  5. B,

I liked this one - a few different things in there. I have book 2 on the shelf - but haven't gotten to it yet. :)

Sorry you've been so busy - that does take away from the fun of reading.

  6. Sorry it didn't live up to expectations today!

  7. I don't do a ton of UF, but thanks for honest review.

  8. I do like urban fantasy, but I always have trouble getting past the covers. It's always the same with a girl wearing only part of a shirt and looking like she could beat up anyone. I don't know why it turns me off so much.
That said, I will therefore definitely take your review to heart and not read this one. :-P Even if it was good. . .

  9. I've loved the premise and cover but haven't gotten around to reading it. Guess it will stay that way but loved the review!

  10. This one has been on my TBR mountain somewhere, always something that makes me pick another book.

  11. I still want to read it, but I will lower my expectations. Hm.. maybe it will improve the more it progresses in the series.

  12. I like the cover and the premise sounds good. Too bad you didn't like it more.

  13. This is a series I've been wanting to start. I'm afraid I might have high expectations too.

  14. I forgot this one. I added it to my TBR list when everyone was talking about it but then I kind of forgot about it, and now I'm not as enthusiastic about it anymore.

  15. oh no, stress reading is no good!! i've had it happen to me before too.

  16. @VFG
I especially liked how he still liked her in her new body, cos it was the inside that counted, awwwwwww

I should not have to high expectations :(

Dunno what was missing for me, cos I did like it, so what am I complaining about?

Peeps do seem to love it, so do not let me stop you.

I am not used to it :( I am getting there. slowly, will surely have gotten a hang of things just when I am not needed anymore

  17. Vivienne
    Just not my day

I do still love UF, and this one was better than other books I have read but..

Yeah, I mean I like that the covers are cool, but really, would you wanna fight vampires and icky things dressed like that?

    Thanks Alyssa :)
I do hope you still read it one day

Have a look, perhaps you will enjoy it

  18. Melissa
I feel bad now, I did like it, I just wanted more I guess :(

Dunno what went wrong, let's blame stress

They are so bad, it's better to go in with low ones

Books lose their charm over a period of time, it happens

I noticed, so very very bad. I have not yet gotten a hang of it all. But soon I will be back to my old routines

  19. Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this. I was really hoping you would have enjoyed this one. But, yeah, I know when that book comes around and its good but just good for me. :) Thanks and glad you gave it a whirl.

  20. I enjoyed this one, but I wasn't blown away by it and have yet to pick up the second one. I did love Evy though, and Wyatt I adored with his more shy approach. It was different from a lot of the alpha male types I've been reading lately! Maybe book 2 will be more appealing if you give it a try?

  21. No, stress-reading is an automatic killer for any book! lol I really love this series. I found it to be very unique and well written. It's too bad it wasn't as wonderful for you. :(

  22. Hey, when you read a lot of books, you want better than just good. There's nothing wrong with that! I hate having to lower my expectations to enjoy something. Thanks for the honest review though!

  23. I'm sorry this book didn't live up to your expectations, but you wrote a good review. Love the cover!

  24. Great review and one piece of advice - don't read in stress, it is not worth it. It's better to write one review less than to spoil your experience. BTW my first Friday Flash Fiction text is up!

  25. It sounds good and I hope I get it someday. Sorry to hear it didn't live up to your expectations.

  26. Sorry this one wasn't great for you. Hopefully the next one you read is!

  27. Lesson from this story is no more stress reading! :-) Make sure to just enjoy the reading while you can. I understand the feeling of needing to get it done so you can start on your next book and write a book review but sometimes it's better to post-pone something so that you can just enjoy it. I might have to check this one out, not sure yet.

  28. I have a hard time getting into UF so this one is probably not for me, even though the cover is kick ass! ;)

  29. YAY! so glad you enjoyed this one! I did too! =D

  30. Hope you enjoy the second one more! =)

  31. Sorry this one didnt quite live up to your expectations even though you enjoyed it, but I do like the sound of it :)

  32. Nice review. I know what you mean, I cant read under stress either, it ruins it for me.

  33. Melissa
I had hoped so too, and oh, I am so torn cos I did like the book, I just wanted to really like it

Perhaps we felt kind of the same thing then. But yes Wyatt was sure not one of those typical alphas and I did like him more cos of that

Stress-reading is bad bad bad! But I guess i just kept thinking "I hope I will love is as much as..." which is so bad. Cos I kept comparing it to another book when it stood fine on its own

I truly should not go in like I did, cos the book was still good, like many other books I have read. Totally blew it for myself

  34. Yvonne
    Thanks :) Oh yes kick-ass!

I am just stressing cos I have so many books I wanna read, I fear I will never get to read them :(
Ok take a step back, calm yourself, deep breath. I promise not to stress-read anymore

I wanted too much, cos I do recommend it and hope you will read it

Thanks, I hope so too :)

Lesson learned :) I love reading too much and I have gotten to used to reading a lot...but hey sadly only working one more week so back to read after that

  35. Missie
I love UF, all that ass-kicking, awesome

I hope so too, cos I do wanna read it, just, other books more at the moment

I would recommend it :) It was good after all

    Stress is just evil

  36. I am sorry that it didn't exceed your expectations. I just read a book like that. Although, I might be interested in starting this series. Maybe I will like it.
