Sometimes I just need something that is a bit different to get me going. And after having read this I realised that I do miss reading.

A young woman is going to a party. We stay in her head for the entire of her evening as she navigates the party and just, well exists. She is autistic and she is constantly watching what is happening around her.

It is not a book for everyone. It just sort of flows on as the evening progresses. She talks to a few people, we see glimpses of her past. But it is written so well and I could connect to  her.

A pleasant little book

A young woman gets ready to go to a party. She arrives, feels overwhelmed, leaves, and then returns. Minutely attuned to the people who come into her view, and alternating between alienation and profound connection, she is hilarious, self-aware, sometimes acerbic, and always honest.

And by the end of the night, she’s shown us something radical about love, loss, and the need to belong.

  2. Yes, once in a while a book that's way different from the usual really works out.

  4. I feel like I would need to be in the right mood for this one, but I love the concept of just going through life with this person.

  8. Yes, I sometimes prefer reading over an audiobook. Especially if the narrator isn't that good.
