Audio Book Challenge and TMST Best books of 2017

2018 Audiobook Challenge

Challenge Details

  • Runs January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2018. You can join at anytime.
  • The goal is to find a new love for audios or to outdo yourself by listening to more audios in 2018 than you did in 2017.
  • Books must be in audio format (CD, MP3, etc.)
  • ANY genres count.
  • Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed.
  • You do not have to be a book blogger to participate; you can track your progress on Goodreads, Facebook, LibraryThing, etc.
  • If you’re a blogger grab the button and do a quick post about the challenge to help spread the word. If you’re not a blogger you can help by posting on Facebook or Tweeting about the challenge.
  • Updates plus a giveaway will be posted twice during the year. First update in June 30, 2018 and last update in December 15, 2018.

  • Newbie (I’ll give it a try) 1-5
  • Weekend Warrior (I’m getting the hang of this) 5-10
  • Stenographer (can listen while multi-tasking) 10-15
  • Socially Awkward (Don’t talk to me) 15-20
  • Binge Listener (Why read when someone can do it for you) 20-30
  • My Precious (I had my earbuds surgically implanted) 30+
  • Marathoner (Look Ma No Hands) 50+
I did not think I would do as well as I did this year (will post about that later this year), but what a audio year! I am a bit afraid to go for Marathoner, but what the H! I will!! I really have fallen in love with audio.

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post on Rainy Day Ramblings where Rainy discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging. Weigh in and join the conversation by adding your thoughts in the comments. If you want to do your own post, grab the question and answer it on your blog.

December 19th Best Books of 2017

Howl because it was so funny. Every Heart gets best novella by far. Strange the Dreamer cos she sure always writes a strong first book. To the Bridge Edge best fiction of the year. The Bear for its fantastic fairytaleness. Irresistible you most amazing contemporary. The Heart for the story it managed in just novella format. Spellslinger for it's lightness and Nice Dragons for the laughs.

And Top 2 goes to these two-

Gather The Daughters stayed with me and damn it was twisted. You all have to read it.

Asking for it also stayed with me and was so emotionally draining listening too. I still feel her hurt in my soul. This one you have to listen to.

  1. Have fun with the challenge!

I'm adding Gather the Daughters to my wish list.

  2. I still can't make it through an audio book. I updated my library card so I might try a different genre before giving up for good.

    For What It's Worth

    1. Hey, I used to manage one a year, and then I do mean it took an entire year to go through it

  3. I haven't read any of those books.

  4. Wow you sure have become an audiobook advocate in the past year, all the best for 2018.

  5. Yay so happy you are joining the challenge again!

  6. Yay we're gonna rock it next year on audiobooks :D

  7. Good luck on your challenge. I am still trying to get in to audio books.

  8. I need to read the Nice dragons series.

  9. You listened a lot of audiobooks this year! It always makes me happy to see another audiobook convert, the format is so convenient and addictive!

  10. I love seeing best of lists this time of th e year and early into next year. Always great to see what people loved reading.

  11. And if I read something awesome before -18 I will mention that later on

  12. I really want to try the Aaron book!

  13. This is a great reminder that I need to try to get through at least one audiobook in 2018 without falling asleep. (lol) Thanks for your 2017 best read list! Hugs...RO

  14. Cheering you on to Audio Challenge Marathoner next year.

Oh, love seeing your favorites for the year. I hope to get to The Bear and Nightingale soon.

  15. Oh man, I would be a newbie in that challenge. I listen to audiobooks when I take the pup for a walk or if I have a longish drive ahead of me. Other than that, I'm a reader. Good luck on the challenge though! I'm sure you will hit the marathoner mark before the new... next... before 2019 starts. LoL

    1. It is all cos of the baby, love those long walks

  16. I really loved Laini Taylor but that ending. Every Heart a Doorway was terrific but I read that last year, still need to read the sequel. I also enjoyed Bear and The NIghtingale. Some great picks up there. Happy holidays!

    1. I read to need more of those Mcguire ones too!

And yes wanted to comment how we both liked Bear :)

  17. Good luck with the audiobook challenge. I am sure that you will do well with it. Great list of favorites for the year. Bear and the Nightingale and Every Heart are both great!

  18. I haven't read any of your best of December books. Looking forward to finding out how you did in 2017!

  19. I LOVE Nice Dragons Finished Last. That is a favorite series of mine. I'm so glad that you enjoyed book one. The series gets better. I want to try Gather the Daughters. I'm glad to have you on for the audiobook challenge. Good luck with the Marathoner. I hope you find some great listens.

  20. I haven't read any of these books, but I have heard so many good things about the Seanan Maguire series. I may need to check that one out.

    Thanks for sharing!

  21. Hooray! I'm so glad you finally got a chance to pick up Nice Dragons Finish Last -- it's such a funny and sweet book.
