When he was wicked - Julia Quinn

In every life there is a turning point. A moment so tremendous, so sharp and breathtaking, that one knows one's life will never be the same. For Michael Stirling, London's most infamous rake, that moment came the first time he laid eyes on Francesca Bridgerton.

After a lifetime of chasing women, of smiling slyly as they chased him, of allowing himself to be caught but never permitting his heart to become engaged, he took one look at Francesca Bridgerton and fell so fast and hard into love it was a wonder he managed to remain standing. Unfortunately for Michael, however, Francesca's surname was to remain Bridgerton for only a mere thirty-six hours longer—the occasion of their meeting was, lamentably, a supper celebrating her imminent wedding to his cousin.

But that was then... Now Michael is the earl and Francesca is free, but still she thinks of him as nothing other than her dear friend and confidant. Michael dares not speak to her of his love... until one dangerous night, when she steps innocently into his arms, and passion proves stronger than even the most wicked of secrets... (less)

My thoughts:
I SO have not read these in order. I read the 8th first, then I think the 3rd? and then the 1st and now the 6th...oh well, getting to the end...slooowly. I really should read them all.

I almost started crying, damn. But she was SO happy and so much in love and then boom, hubbie dead. What? Nooooo!

So it is four years later. She thinks it is time to move on. In comes Michael, her husband's cousin, and the man who has loved her for years. But he would never go there, neither would she.

But hey we both know they will fall in each other's arms and so they do so that they can live happily ever after.

It was cute and I almost read it in a day, aaalmost, I did start another Quinn book the same day so it took 2 days.

  1. Oh... this sounds great. And I like that you don't have to read in order (but I still would!). I need to read more historicals!

  5. I love when a spouse can move on from grief but I'm still always a little sad about that first lost love.

  8. Yes, the cover is really unappealing, but the story itself sounds all nice and feel good once you get past the dead husband.

  11. Since this is a later book, I hope the love story of Francesca and Michael weren't the subject of one of the earlier books, otherwise I'd be so pissed that he was dead! That would be really cruel :P

  12. I have really got to read Quinn this year. I have the first book from this series on audio so maybe it will happen. I do agree that this cover is very dull.

  13. I've been known to skip around in a series. I drive myself nuts, but its a mood thing.

Ah, glad this new chance for her and finally his chance was a good one. :)

  14. I've given up trying to read in order - if there are a lot of books in a series I haven't read it's just not going to happen. Besides, most HR series book can stand alone, don't you think? I'll look for this one in audio from my library.

  15. I'm a big stickler for reading in order. I think of all the series I've read, I've only read a handful out of order. Glad you enjoyed this one.
